Our Mission

Leadership & Governance

Pairijit Tigummiaqtikkut was born from the vision and determination of Inuit Elders who recognized the need for dedicated support and advocacy in their communities. Incorporated in 1987, our not-for-profit Elder society has spent over three decades serving as a vital resource for Elders in Iqaluit and across Nunavut.

What began as a grassroots initiative to create gathering spaces for Elders has evolved into an organization that provides social programs, advocates for policy change, and champions innovative solutions to the challenges facing our Elder community.

We exist to provide space and programming for Elders to gather, to deliver essential social and support programs for Elders in Iqaluit, and to advocate on Elder-related issues throughout the territory. Our work is guided by the wisdom and leadership of the Elders we serve.

Pairijit Tigummiaqtikkut is governed by a seven-member elected Board of Directors, composed entirely of Inuit Elders who are elected by our broad membership of Iqaluit Elders. This Elder-led governance structure ensures that our programs and advocacy efforts are shaped by those who understand the community's needs most intimately.

Our reach extends far beyond Iqaluit's borders. While we provide direct services in the capital, our members maintain family connections and networks across Nunavut. Elders traveling through or temporarily residing in Iqaluit actively participate in our programs, helping our Board recognize and respond to territory-wide needs and issues.
